Biometric data policy

This policy explains how FaceTwin handles facial geometry and face descriptors (“biometric data”), including for the purposes of the Illinois Biometric Information Privacy Act, the Texas and Washington biometric laws and the GDPR.

1. Free features: processed only on your device

Celebrity lookalikes and the face analysis are computed by a model that runs inside your browser. The landmarks and 128-number face descriptor derived from your photo exist only in your browser’s memory and are erased when you remove the photo, reload or close the tab. FaceTwin does not collect, receive, store or have access to them.

2. Paid features: written consent, single use, immediate deletion

Before an AI portrait or a full report is created, you must sign in and tick a separate consent that names the purpose. Your photo is then transmitted once over an encrypted connection to our server and our AI provider, used solely to create the result you asked for, and deleted from memory immediately afterwards — it is never written to our database or storage. For reports, we also receive the numeric measurements computed on your device (for example “symmetry 82%”), which are stored with your report for 7 days and then deleted.

3. Retention and destruction

• Uploaded photos: not retained; discarded at the end of the request. Each generation logs the time the photo was received and discarded.
• Generated portraits and reports: deleted automatically 7 days after creation.
• In all cases biometric data is destroyed no later than when the purpose has been satisfied, and never later than 30 days after your last interaction.

4. No sale, no training, no identification

We do not sell, lease, trade or otherwise profit from biometric data, do not use it to identify you or anyone else, and do not use your photos or results to train models. Our AI provider is instructed not to retain inputs beyond processing.

5. The celebrity index

To find lookalikes we pre-computed face descriptors from freely licensed Wikimedia Commons photos of public figures. We store only the descriptor, the person’s name and the photo attribution — not the photos. Public figures can ask for removal on our takedown page.

6. Adults only

FaceTwin is intended for adults (18+) analysing their own photo. Do not upload photos of other people or of minors.
