A free UMax alternative: face rating without a subscription

UMax is a phone app that scores your face and builds a looks-improvement routine. If you only want the score, and want it free, with no app install and no photo upload, FaceTwin does that part in your browser.

In short: FaceTwin is a free UMax alternative for a quick, measured face rating. It runs in your browser with no app, no sign-up and no subscription: 68 landmarks, a 1–10 proportions score, a PSL estimate and a percentile against 1,196 reference faces, with the photo never uploaded. UMax is an app with paid plans and a coaching routine, which FaceTwin does not replace.

  • Free, no sign-up

What is a free alternative to UMax?

UMax is a mobile app that rates your face and then offers a looks-improvement routine. Apps in this category usually charge through in-app purchases or subscriptions, with prices shown in the store listing that differ by country and over time. FaceTwin is a free alternative for the rating part. Open the page, choose a selfie, and your browser places 68 landmarks, scores symmetry, golden-ratio proportions, facial thirds, canthal tilt and jaw angle, and shows a 1–10 score, a PSL-style estimate and a percentile against 1,196 reference faces. No account, no app and no payment are needed, and the photo is not uploaded. What FaceTwin does not do is coach you over weeks, track progress in an app or sell routines. Use it for a fast, repeatable number and decide separately whether a paid plan is worth it. Both are entertainment, not a measure of worth.

  • Free, no sign-up, no app
  • 68 landmarks, 5 weighted proportions
  • Percentile vs 1,196 reference faces
  • Photo stays in your browser

How to use it

  1. Upload a selfie or take one: a front-facing, well-lit photo of yourself, no glasses, neutral expression.
  2. Wait a few seconds: the face model finds 68 landmarks in your browser; the photo is not uploaded.
  3. Read your 1–10 score and the six explained measurements.
  4. Try two more photos and average them for a steadier result.

When UMax is the better choice

Be honest about what you want. If you want a daily routine, reminders and a place to log progress photos for months, an app built around that habit will serve you better than a free web tool. FaceTwin gives you a measurement, not a program. It also does not pretend a score can tell you how to change your life: the number reflects proportions on one photo, and expression, angle and light move it.

If you only want to know where you stand, how a new haircut or a different camera angle changes the reading, or what your PSL estimate looks like, a free tool is enough, and you can run it as often as you like without paying per scan.

How FaceTwin rates your face

  1. A face model (about 12 MB, cached after your first visit) loads in your browser.
  2. It finds your face and places 68 landmarks on the eyes, brows, nose, mouth and jaw.
  3. Five proportions are computed from those points: symmetry across 26 mirrored pairs (30%), seven golden-ratio checks (20%), facial thirds (20%), canthal tilt (15%) and jaw angle (15%).
  4. The weighted result becomes your 1–10 score and a percentile against 1,196 reference faces, whose median score is 7.2 (10th percentile 6.4, 90th percentile 8.0).
  5. The PSL tab converts the same score to the 1–8 scale, and every landmark is drawn on your photo so you can see what was measured.

Because there is no learned “beauty” model hidden in the pipeline, you can check the work: if a landmark sits on the wrong spot, you will see it, and the score is explained by named measurements instead of a black box.

How to choose between a looks app and a free tool

  • Cost over time: a weekly or monthly plan adds up; a free tool costs nothing to repeat.
  • Photo handling: ask where the photo goes, how long it is kept and whether it trains models. In-browser processing removes the question for the rating itself.
  • Method: prefer a score you can trace to measurements and a stated reference set over an unexplained number.
  • Repeatability: run the same photo twice. A trustworthy score does not change.
  • Tone: a good tool says plainly that the score is entertainment and that photos are affected by lens, angle and light.

Tip for any tool: take the photo at arm’s length or further, facing a window, with a neutral expression and no filter. A close-up wide-angle selfie stretches the center of the face and changes proportions more than most people expect.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a free version of UMax?

Apps in this category are usually free to download with paid plans inside; check the current store listing for what UMax charges. If you only need a face score, FaceTwin is free with no sign-up.

Is UMax accurate?

No face-scoring app can measure how attractive other people find you. UMax, like every rater, converts one photo into a number, and the number depends on camera distance, angle and light. Judge any rater by whether it shows its method and gives the same score for the same photo.

Does FaceTwin do everything UMax does?

No. FaceTwin gives a measured rating, a PSL estimate and shareable results. It does not provide a coaching routine, progress tracking or a subscription program.

Is FaceTwin the same as UMax?

No. FaceTwin is an independent website and is not affiliated with UMax or its developer.

Which is better for a PSL score?

FaceTwin’s PSL tab converts the 1–10 score to a 1–8 estimate for free; the formula is stated on the PSL pages. UMax presents its own rating system inside the app. Neither is an official PSL, which is a forum scale.

Can I use FaceTwin on my phone?

Yes. It works in your phone’s browser; there is nothing to install.

Is my photo uploaded?

Not for local lookalikes or face analysis: the model runs in your browser, so your selfie, landmarks and descriptor stay on your device. AI portraits, including the first free one, and full reports send your photo through our server to the AI provider after a free first-portrait request or a credit purchase, and separate upload consent. Reports also send your numeric measurements. FaceTwin does not save the original photo; it is discarded from request memory after processing.
