What is the PSL scale for women?
Short answer: Women use the same 1–8 PSL scale as men, with 4 as average. Across 540 measured faces of women who are public figures, 30.6% estimate at 4, 23.7% at 4.5, 14.3% at 5, 1.7% at 5.5 and none at 6 or higher. FaceTwin estimates yours free on your device. Adults only; entertainment, not a measure of worth.
Women are rated on the same informal 1–8 PSL scale as men: 4 is average, 5 is clearly above average, 6 is described as model-level and 7–8 are treated as near-impossible. There is no separate female formula; forums simply apply the levels, often with harsher wording. FaceTwin measures instead. In our reference set of 540 frontal faces of women who are public figures, the estimated PSL was 3 or below for 7%, 3.5 for 22.8%, 4 for 30.6%, 4.5 for 23.7%, 5 for 14.3%, 5.5 for 1.7% and 6 or above for nobody. The median 1–10 proportions score for women was 7.3, slightly above the overall 7.2. Upload a selfie to see your own estimate, computed in your browser. It is entertainment for adults, not a measure of worth.
- Same 1–8 levels for everyone
- 30.6% of 540 women estimate at 4
- 14.3% at 5 · 1.7% at 5.5 · none at 6+
- Women’s median score 7.3
How to use it
- Upload a selfie or take one: a front-facing, well-lit photo of yourself, no glasses, neutral expression.
- Wait a few seconds: the face model finds 68 landmarks in your browser; the photo is not uploaded.
- Read your 1–10 proportions score and the estimated PSL (1–8, half steps).
- Check which measurements raised or lowered the estimate.

The female PSL chart, measured
The descriptions below are the commonly shared ones, rewritten without the insulting slang that often comes with them. The right-hand columns show how FaceTwin’s estimate spread across 540 women’s faces, with men alongside for comparison.
| PSL | Commonly described as | Women (540) | Men (646) |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 or below | Below average | 7% | 11% |
| 3.5 | Slightly below average | 22.8% | 25.9% |
| 4 | Average — the middle of the curve | 30.6% | 31.1% |
| 4.5 | Slightly above average | 23.7% | 19.7% |
| 5 | Clearly above average | 14.3% | 11.9% |
| 5.5 | Well above average | 1.7% | 0.5% |
| 6–8 | Model-level to theoretical perfection | 0% | 0% |
Women’s estimates sit slightly higher than men’s at 4.5 and above, but the shape of the curve is the same: about three in four faces fall between 3.5 and 4.5.
Measured differences in women’s faces
The formula is identical for everyone. These are the averages it found in each group — differences in the inputs, not different rules:
| Measurement | Women | Men |
|---|---|---|
| 1–10 proportions score, median | 7.3 | 7.2 |
| Symmetry 90% or more | 20.2% | 13.9% |
| Positive canthal tilt (5° or more) | 27.8% | 14.6% |
| Canthal tilt, median | +4° | +3° |
| Face length ÷ width, median | 1.47 | 1.43 |
| Heart face shape | 16.1% | 2.8% |
| Oblong face shape | 22% | 11.6% |
Two inputs explain most of the gap: more women in the set had very symmetric faces and an upward eye tilt, and both raise the composite. Makeup in public photos may contribute to the tilt figure, since eyeliner can change where the landmark model sees the outer corner.
Why forum ratings of women are especially unreliable
- Small, self-selected rater groups: the people rating are rarely representative and often rate by narrow personal taste.
- Styling dominates: makeup, hair, filters and lighting change a photo far more than the bone structure underneath.
- Harsh wording: forum labels attached to levels are often degrading, which tells you more about the forum than the face.
- No explanation: a number with no reasons cannot tell you anything useful to do.
A measured estimate has limits too, but every half step can be traced to a landmark you can see, and the same photo always gives the same result.
How to get a fair estimate
- Use a recent, unfiltered selfie taken at eye level and about an arm’s length away.
- Face the camera straight on with a relaxed, neutral expression.
- Pull hair away from the forehead and jawline so the face outline is visible.
- Upload it above, open the PSL tab and read the six measurements behind the number.
Heavy contouring or winged eyeliner can shift landmarks slightly. If you want to compare, use the same makeup, light and distance each time.
Results that are more useful than the PSL number
The same upload fills every other tab, and several of them are more practical than a looks level:
| Tab | What it tells you | Women in our data |
|---|---|---|
| Face shape | Your outline and the haircuts and glasses that suit it | Oval 50.6%, oblong 22%, heart 16.1% |
| Symmetry | How closely your left and right sides match, region by region | Median 79%; 20.2% at 90% or more |
| Golden ratio | Seven classical proportions compared with 1.618 | Median 78; length ÷ width 1.47 |
| Canthal tilt | The angle of your eyes in degrees | Median +4°; 27.8% positive |
These describe your face rather than ranking it, which makes them easier to use for something real, like choosing a fringe or frames.
Keeping it in perspective
The PSL scale was designed to be harsh, so most women — including many who are widely admired — land at 4 or 4.5. A geometric estimate cannot see skin, hair, expression, warmth or style, which are much of what people respond to. Use the number, if at all, as a curiosity, and use the face shape and proportions results for practical things like haircuts and glasses.
If a score is making you anxious rather than curious, step away from it. If worries about appearance take up a lot of your day, talking to a doctor or counsellor is a sign of strength. FaceTwin gives no medical or cosmetic advice.
Frequently asked questions
Is there a different PSL scale for women?
No. The levels are the same 1–8 for everyone. Forums apply them to women with their own wording, but there is no separate formula.
What is an average PSL for a woman?
4. In our reference set of 540 women, 30.6% estimate at 4, the largest group, and most fall between 3.5 and 4.5.
What PSL is a very attractive woman?
On the forum chart, 5 is clearly above average and 6 is described as model-level. Among 540 women who are public figures, 14.3% estimate at 5, 1.7% at 5.5 and none at 6 or above.
Why are women’s estimates slightly higher than men’s?
Two inputs: 20.2% of the women had symmetry of 90% or more versus 13.9% of the men, and 27.8% had a positive canthal tilt versus 14.6%. Both raise the composite score.
Does makeup change my PSL estimate?
It can, slightly. Eyeliner and contouring may move where the model sees the eye corners and jaw. Compare photos taken with the same makeup and light.
What face shape is most common for women?
Oval, at 50.6% of the women we measured. Oblong was next at 22% and heart at 16.1%, far more common than among men (2.8%).
Is a PSL 4 bad for a woman?
No. It is the middle of a scale built to be harsh, and it is the most common result among women who are public figures. It is not a measure of worth.
Can I use a photo of someone else?
No. Use your own photo only. Rating other people’s faces without consent is not what the tool is for.
Is the PSL scale for women scientific?
No. It is an informal forum scale. FaceTwin measures real proportions and converts them onto PSL wording for curiosity only.
Is this suitable for teenagers?
No. Looks ratings are for adults (18+).
Is my photo uploaded?
Not for local lookalikes or face analysis: the model runs in your browser, so your selfie, landmarks and descriptor stay on your device. AI portraits, including the first free one, and full reports send your photo through our server to the AI provider after a free first-portrait request or a credit purchase, and separate upload consent. Reports also send your numeric measurements. FaceTwin does not save the original photo; it is discarded from request memory after processing.
