Eyebrow shape for your face shape: arch, length and thickness

Brows work like frames: the right arch and tail can lengthen, shorten or soften a face. Check your face shape and your current brow type with a selfie above, then use the table below to choose where the arch and tail go.

In short: FaceTwin is a free face analysis tool with no sign-up that runs in your browser. It names your face shape and reads your brows as arched, soft-arched or straight from the 68 landmark points. This page matches a brow shape to each face shape and shows how to find your arch and tail. Your photo is never uploaded.

What eyebrow shape suits my face?

Match the brow to the contrast you want. Round faces suit a high, angled arch that adds length. Square faces suit a softly rounded arch that softens the jaw. Oval faces suit a gentle arch, since the proportions are already balanced. Heart faces suit a rounded brow with a low arch and a soft tail. Oblong faces suit flatter, straighter brows that add width and shorten the face. Diamond faces suit a curved, soft arch that balances the cheekbones. A triangle tendency, where the jaw is wider than the brow line, suits a lifted arch and a slightly fuller brow. FaceTwin reads your own brows as arched, soft-arched or straight from the rise of the highest brow point above its ends. A rise above 0.11 reads arched, below 0.085 reads straight, and anything between is soft-arched.

How to use it

  1. Upload a selfie or take one: a front-facing, well-lit photo of yourself, no glasses, neutral expression.
  2. Wait a few seconds: the face model finds 68 landmarks in your browser; the photo is not uploaded.
  3. Read your face shape and the three ratios behind it.
  4. Scroll to the haircuts and glasses that suit that shape.

Brow shape by face shape: the quick table

Treat these as starting points. Each row says what the brow is meant to do for the face, and where the arch and the tail belong.

How FaceTwin reads your brow type

The face model places five landmark points along each brow (points 17 to 21 on one side and 22 to 26 on the other, in the usual 68-point layout). The detector measures how high the brow rises above its ends: the highest point of the brow, compared with the outer end and with the inner end. It averages the two comparisons, across both brows, in the same units as the rest of the face geometry.

Measured riseBrow typeWhat it looks like
Above 0.11ArchedA clear peak and a downward tail
0.085 to 0.11Soft-archedA gentle curve with no sharp corner
Below 0.085StraightA flat or nearly flat line

It is a measurement of the brow as it is now, in your photo, not a recommendation. A brow filled in with a pencil or brushed upward will change the reading, and so will raised eyebrows or a frown. Use a relaxed, neutral expression for the most reliable result.

How to map your arch and tail

You can do this on a printed selfie or in a photo editor. These points give a classic starting map; they are the common makeup-artist method, not a measurement from the FaceTwin detector.

  1. Start: the inner end of the brow lines up vertically with the inner corner of the eye (the side of the nostril).
  2. Arch: the highest point sits roughly above the outer edge of the iris, in the outer third of the brow.
  3. Tail: the brow ends on a line from the outside of the nostril through the outer corner of the eye. The tail should not drop below the start of the brow.
  4. Compare the three heights: the start and the tail should be on a similar level, and the arch higher. A tail much lower than the start pulls the face down.

In the 68-point layout, the inner brow points are 21 and 22 and the outer ones are 17 and 26. The peak is whichever of the five points on that side is highest. The rise we report is the vertical gap between that peak and the two ends. If your highest point is the one next to the inner end, your brow is front-weighted and reads flatter than a classic arch.

Round, square and oval faces

Round faces gain length from a high, defined arch with an angled peak. Avoid very round, short brows, which echo the curves. Keep the tail pointed and not too long.

Square faces have a strong jaw. A softly rounded brow with a modest arch softens it; very straight or sharply angled brows repeat the lines of the jaw.

Oval faces can wear almost any brow. A gentle arch is the safest choice, and the thickness can follow current fashion and your preferences.

Heart, oblong and diamond faces

Heart faces have a wide forehead. A rounded brow with a low arch and a short, soft tail reduces the impression of width. Avoid a very high arch that adds to the forehead.

Oblong faces are long. A flatter, straighter brow, slightly extended outward, makes the face look wider and shorter. A high arch lengthens it further.

Diamond faces have prominent cheekbones. A curved brow with a soft arch and a fuller tail balances them; sharp, thin angled brows emphasize the contrast.

Triangle tendency, thickness and the rest

If your jaw is at least 6% wider than your brow line, a lifted arch and a slightly fuller brow add weight at the top. The detector has no triangle class, but the jaw and brow ratios are in your result.

Thickness matters as much as shape. Fuller brows suit most faces and age well; very thin brows tend to date a look. Eye spacing also matters: wide-set eyes suit brows that start slightly closer to the nose, and close-set eyes suit brows that start a little further out.

Brows are easy to over-pluck and slow to regrow. Map the shape first, fill gaps with a pencil to test it, and only then trim stray hairs outside the line. A professional can shape the brow once and you can maintain it.

Frequently asked questions

What eyebrow shape suits my face shape?

Round faces suit a high angled arch, square a rounded arch, oval a soft arch, heart a rounded low arch, oblong a straight brow and diamond a curved soft arch.

What eyebrow shape is best for an oblong face?

A flatter, straighter brow with little arch, extended slightly outward. It adds width and shortens the face.

How does FaceTwin know my brow type?

It measures how high the peak of each brow sits above its ends, from the 68 landmark points. Above 0.11 reads arched, below 0.085 reads straight, and in between soft-arched.

Where should my eyebrow arch be?

Usually in the outer third of the brow, roughly above the outer edge of the iris. The start lines up with the inner eye corner and the tail with the outer corner.

Can I use this to wax or pluck my brows?

Use it as a guide, not an instruction. Map the shape with a pencil first and leave final shaping to a professional.

Is my photo uploaded?

Not for local lookalikes or face analysis: the model runs in your browser, so your selfie, landmarks and descriptor stay on your device. AI portraits, including the first free one, and full reports send your photo through our server to the AI provider after a free first-portrait request or a credit purchase, and separate upload consent. Reports also send your numeric measurements. FaceTwin does not save the original photo; it is discarded from request memory after processing.

Does the tool draw brows on my photo?

No. It reads your brow type from the landmarks and names the shape that suits your face, but it does not edit your photo.
