Hairstyles for diamond faces: soften the cheekbones, widen the ends

A diamond face is widest across the cheekbones, with a narrower forehead and a narrower, often pointed jaw. Check your shape with a selfie above, then choose cuts below that add width at the forehead and chin.

In short: FaceTwin is a free face shape detector with no sign-up that runs in your browser. It calls a face diamond when the brow line is at most 0.797 of the cheekbone width and the jaw is at most 0.822. This page then gives the haircuts, fringes and beard shapes that balance a diamond face, for women and men, by texture and length.

What hairstyles suit a diamond face?

A diamond face has high, wide cheekbones, a narrower forehead and a narrower jaw that often ends in a point. The best cuts add fullness at the forehead and chin, and keep the volume away from the cheekbones. For women that means chin-length bobs, side-swept or curtain fringes that widen the forehead, long layers that begin below the cheeks, and tucked-behind-the-ear styles that show off the cheekbones. For men it means a textured crop or quiff with some volume on top, a side part, and a medium-length cut with fullness at the temples. Our detector calls a face diamond when the brow line is at most 0.797 and the jaw at most 0.822 of the cheekbone width. Diamond is the rarest shape in our reference set of 1,196 faces: 3.8% overall, 6.2% of men and 1.1% of women.

  • Goal: add width at forehead and chin
  • Diamond = brow ≤ 0.797 and jaw ≤ 0.822 × cheek width

  • Brow and jaw ratios shown with your result

Haircuts and frames for a diamond face

First, confirm your face is a diamond

A diamond face is the one shape that is widest in the middle. The cheekbones stick out beyond both the forehead and the jaw, the forehead is narrow and the chin is narrow, sometimes pointed. Diamond is often confused with heart, which is also narrow at the chin, but a heart face is widest across the forehead, while a diamond is widest across the cheekbones.

The detector above measures the width along your brow line and along your jaw against the width across your cheekbones. A face reads diamond when the brow-to-cheek ratio is 0.797 or lower and the jaw-to-cheek ratio is 0.822 or lower. The checks run in order, so a face that is also clearly long, or has a very square jaw, is labeled oblong or square first. Because the thresholds come from quantiles of real faces, only a small share of faces qualify.

That is why diamond is the rarest class in our reference set: 3.8% of faces, 6.2% of men and 1.1% of women. If you do not land on diamond but your cheekbones are your widest feature, the advice below probably still helps, particularly if the result was oval or heart.

Cuts to approach with care — and how to adapt them

Cheekbones are an asset, so nothing is off-limits. These styles just emphasize the narrow areas, so change them:

  • Slicked-back or center-parted, flat hair: it narrows the forehead and highlights the cheek width. Add a side part or a little volume at the front.
  • Volume at cheekbone level: big curls or layers that end at the cheeks add width where you already have it. Keep fullness higher or lower.
  • Very short, tight sides: they emphasize the narrow jaw. Leave a little length or texture at the sides.
  • Long, straight hair with no layers: it hangs narrow and pointed. Add layers that start below the cheekbones.
  • A very thin, flat fringe: it can make the forehead look smaller. Choose a fringe with some body and sweep it sideways.

Diamond-face haircuts by hair texture and length

Look for texture that adds width to the top and bottom, not the middle.

By texture

  • Straight: a chin-length bob or a lob with a side-swept fringe. Blunt ends add weight at the jaw.
  • Wavy: waves that begin below the cheekbones. A layered lob adds fullness at the lower half.
  • Curly: shoulder-length curls with volume from the ears down, and a soft fringe of curls at the front.
  • Coily: a rounded shape with a bit more width at the top and at the nape, or twists left longer at the front. Avoid a shape that is widest at the cheeks.

By length

Short: a bob with a fringe, or a textured pixie with volume at the front. Medium: the chin-to-collarbone range, with waves below the cheeks. Long: layers that start below the cheekbones, plus a fringe or curtain pieces to widen the forehead.

Men’s haircuts and beard shaping for diamond faces

Diamond faces are about twice as common among men as the overall rate in our reference set (6.2% against 3.8%). A textured crop with a fringe or a quiff with some volume adds width at the forehead. A side part with a soft taper keeps the sides neat without making the jaw look narrower. Medium-length hair with fullness at the temples is also easy to wear.

For beards, a fuller beard with a squarer shape at the chin adds width to the narrowest area. A chin strap or a pointed goatee emphasizes the point of the jaw. Stubble is a safe choice, and a short boxed beard can balance the cheekbones.

Fringe, parting, styling — and what to tell your stylist

A side-swept fringe and curtain bangs are the easiest wins: they add width above the cheekbones and draw attention to the eyes. A side part also does this better than a center part. When styling, put volume at the roots at the front and at the ends, and keep the middle sleek. For glasses, cat-eye, oval and rimless frames suit the shape; see the table on the glasses page.

A short script for your stylist

“My cheekbones are the widest part of my face and my forehead and jaw are narrower. I’d like to add width at the forehead and the chin: a side-swept or curtain fringe, and ends that stop at the chin or fall in loose waves below the cheeks. No volume at cheekbone level. My hair is [texture] and I style it for about [minutes] a day.” Show your FaceTwin brow and jaw ratios and a reference photo you like.

Frequently asked questions

What haircut is best for a diamond face?

A chin-length bob or a lob with a side-swept or curtain fringe. For men, a textured crop or quiff with some volume at the front.

Do bangs suit diamond faces?

Yes. Side-swept and curtain bangs add width at the forehead, which is one of the narrow areas.

What is the difference between a diamond and a heart face?

Both taper to a narrow chin. A heart face is widest across the forehead; a diamond face is widest across the cheekbones.

Is a diamond face rare?

Yes. In our reference set of 1,196 faces, 3.8% met our diamond rule — 6.2% of men and 1.1% of women.

What beard suits a diamond face?

A fuller beard with a squarer shape at the chin, or stubble. Avoid a thin chin strap or pointed goatee.

Is my photo uploaded?

Not for local lookalikes or face analysis: the model runs in your browser, so your selfie, landmarks and descriptor stay on your device. AI portraits, including the first free one, and full reports send your photo through our server to the AI provider after a free first-portrait request or a credit purchase, and separate upload consent. Reports also send your numeric measurements. FaceTwin does not save the original photo; it is discarded from request memory after processing.

What glasses suit a diamond face?

Cat-eye, oval and rimless frames, or frames with a detailed upper line. See the glasses page for every shape.
