What hairstyles suit a triangle face?
A triangle or pear face has a jaw that is wider than the forehead, so the best cuts add width and volume at the temples and top, and avoid fullness at the jaw. For women that means a fringe or curtain bangs, layers with volume at the crown and cheekbones, a lob that ends above the widest part of the jaw, and styles with height. For men it means a textured quiff or crop with volume on top, a fringe, and a taper that leaves the sides neat. Our detector has no triangle class; it reports the nearest of six shapes and shows the jaw and brow ratios. We call it a triangle tendency when the jaw is at least 1.06 times the brow width. In our reference set of 1,196 faces, 9.9% did: 16.4% of men and 2% of women.
- Goal: widen the top, not the jaw
- Triangle tendency = jaw ÷ brow ≥ 1.06
- 9.9% of 1,196 faces (men 16.4%, women 2%)
- No separate triangle class in the detector
How to use it
- Upload a selfie or take one: a front-facing, well-lit photo of yourself, no glasses, neutral expression.
- Wait a few seconds: the face model finds 68 landmarks in your browser; the photo is not uploaded.
- Read your face shape and the three ratios behind it.
- Scroll to the haircuts and glasses that suit that shape.

First, check whether your face is a triangle
A triangle face is wider at the jaw than at the forehead. The forehead is narrower, the cheekbones are moderate, and the jaw is the widest part of the face. It is sometimes called a pear shape. It is not a seventh label on our detector: face shape here has six classes (oval, round, square, heart, oblong and diamond), and a triangle face is reported as the closest of those, which is often square or round.
What we do instead is show the numbers. Your result lists the jaw width and brow width as ratios of your cheekbone width. If the jaw ratio divided by the brow ratio is 1.06 or more, the jaw is at least 6% wider than the brow line, and you have a triangle tendency. The jaw angle and the other ratios are shown alongside, so you can see whether the jaw is also angular. Being honest about this is important: a label from a textbook is not a measurement, and the 68-point model smooths outlines.
In our reference set of 1,196 faces, 9.9% had this jaw-wider-than-brow pattern. It was far more common among men (16.4%) than women (2%). If you are in the tendency group, the cuts below apply to you, regardless of the label the detector gave.

Cuts to approach with care — and how to adapt them
A strong jaw is a feature. These styles add to it, so adjust them:
- Chin-length blunt bobs: the hemline sits at the widest point. Go longer or angle the front.
- Slicked-back hair: it narrows the top. Add a fringe or lift at the roots.
- Volume at the jaw: big curls ending at the jaw widen the lower face. Keep volume higher.
- Very short, tight sides with a flat top: they narrow the head and emphasize the jaw. Leave texture at the temples.
- A tight ponytail: it exposes the hairline and the jaw. Keep some pieces out at the temples.
Triangle-face haircuts by hair texture and length
Texture matters most at the top and temples.
By texture
- Straight: layers with a root lift, a side-swept fringe and ends that finish above or below the jaw, not at it.
- Wavy: let waves start at the temples. A layered shag adds width on the upper half.
- Curly: curls with volume at the crown; ask for a dry cut and keep the ends from forming a triangle.
- Coily: a rounded shape that is fullest above the ears, twist-outs with height, or a high-top fade with a defined shape.
By length
Short: a pixie or a crop with height and a fringe. Medium: a lob above or below the jaw with layers on top. Long: long layers, curtain bangs and volume at the crown.
Men’s haircuts and beard shaping for triangle faces
A wide jaw is more common among men, and it reads as strength, so you can work with it. A quiff, a textured crop with a fringe or medium swept-up hair adds width and height at the top. Keep the fade low so the sides do not look sharper than the top.
For beards, a short, even beard or stubble follows the jaw without adding bulk. A very full beard widens the jaw further. If you want to soften the jaw, trim the sides shorter than the chin and keep the cheek line natural.
Fringe, parting, styling — and what to tell your stylist
A fringe is the simplest way to widen the top of the face, and a side part is better than a center part. When styling, direct volume up and out at the crown and temples, and keep the ends sleek. For glasses, frames that are wider at the top, such as browline and cat-eye shapes, balance the jaw; see the glasses page.
A short script for your stylist
“My jaw is wider than my forehead. I’d like to add width at the top: a fringe or curtain bangs, volume at the crown, and ends that don’t sit at the jaw. My hair is [texture] and I style it for about [minutes] a day.” Show your FaceTwin jaw and brow ratios and a reference photo you like.
Frequently asked questions
What haircut is best for a triangle face?
A fringe or curtain bangs with volume at the crown and temples. For men, a quiff or textured crop with height.
Does FaceTwin detect triangle faces?
Not as a label. The detector has six classes and reports the nearest one, but it shows your jaw and brow ratios so you can see a triangle tendency.
How do I know if my jaw is wider than my forehead?
Check your result: if the jaw ratio divided by the brow ratio is 1.06 or more, your jaw is at least 6% wider than your brow line.
How common is a triangle face?
In our reference set of 1,196 faces, 9.9% had a jaw at least 6% wider than the brow — 16.4% of men and 2% of women.
What beard suits a triangle face?
A short, even beard or stubble. Avoid a very full beard that widens the jaw.

Not for local lookalikes or face analysis: the model runs in your browser, so your selfie, landmarks and descriptor stay on your device. AI portraits, including the first free one, and full reports send your photo through our server to the AI provider after a free first-portrait request or a credit purchase, and separate upload consent. Reports also send your numeric measurements. FaceTwin does not save the original photo; it is discarded from request memory after processing.
What glasses suit a triangle face?
Browline and cat-eye frames with a heavier top and light lower rim. The glasses page covers every shape.
